smart woman in library reading stack of books for photoreading

“I love books, but I have an entire bookshelf of unread books that I’ll never find the time to read…”

Sound familiar?

I recently sent out a Facebook Post about my stacks of books that I can never seem to find the time to read, and I asked our community if they had a similar pain point.

Intrigued by all the answers I received, I then did a little survey on our Mindvalley Academy Community and found that 42% of those who answered said that they don’t finish their books, 25% said that they read too slow, and 22% said that they cannot retain all the information from the books they read. All very common problems many of us face.

So one of my goals this year is to learn how to speed-read.

But here’s the thing — speed reading isn’t necessarily the answer.

What if the answer isn’t to read a book more quickly. What if it’s rather to read a book more effectively?

See, there’s a whole new realm that people are exploring now, called Nonconscious Acquisition of Information. According to University of Tulsa professor, Pawel Lewicki, in this article featured in American Psychologist,

“A considerable amount of evidence indicates that as compared with consciously controlled cognition, the nonconscious information-acquisition processes are incomparably faster and structurally more sophisticated.

“Also referred to as the characteristics of ‘preconscious processing,’ these processes allow for the development of procedural knowledge that is ‘unknown’ to conscious awareness.

“Research shows that this knowledge can enter the memory system through channels that are independent from consciousness and involve a more advanced and structurally more complex organization than could be handled by consciously controlled thinking.”

So although you are not speed-reading, your subconscious mind absorbs information more effectively — your subconscious rapidly absorbs relevant information and saves it, and with the process of activation, you’re able to quickly recall it in real life situations when needed.

It’s not so much as reading as it is “Google for your brain,” as one friend said.

This process is called photo-reading.

Imagine how instantly crazy smart you can be by this technique?
